My experience with the ORC is with one tractor over 4 years. I am on my second ORC. I don't know how to tell if you are getting a good quality ORC. The first one I bought came from a farm supply store and it was junk. The second one I bought came from a dealer and I haven't had any trouble with it. Think I paid around $60. If I understand your question about malfunction, about the only malfunction you can have is the ORC failing to engage. I would pay a little extra and get one from a dealer, they would probably be about $20 more.
