the letter "S" signifies spark ignited type engines,usually gasoline, kerosene,lp gas or natural gas. The letter "C" refers to compression ignited engines, that is diesels. The further you go down the alphabet in letters, the better the oil additive package. Exanple;"SF" rated oil will have a much better detergent and additive package tnan an "SC" rated oil. it is actually better to look at these qualifications and forget about the brand name on the oil container.
