Warm up the unit. Try to eliminate all leakages. Check fluid reservoir for any trace of foaming up. If so, check suction circuit, retight clamps, check tubes, lines, pipes. Check pump front and rear cover, the front seal of shaft, pipe connections with engine stopped for any leakages. Check the suction circiut from reservoir up to the pump. Cold and dense fluid may sighltly open the pressure regulator and the bypassing oil around the valve generates noise. After warming up place a suitalbe pressure gauge with "T" connector into the pressure line to the steering steering cylinder and check max. operating pressure steering the wheel to its limit to left and rights. Keep steering wheel in its full end position while you may check the max. pressure. In case noise still exists: Check pressure regulator valve spool for scores, crackes and traces of jamming. Check spool housing, spring, eventulally sims under the spring. Adjust as necessary. If operating pressure can not be obtained, disassemble the pump, check and overhaul. KEEP YOUR WORKING AREA AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE!
