My Dad and I go to quite a few farm equipment auctions. While we were attending one last Saturday, I saw a gentleman, with a 5 or 6 year old boy, walk up to a tractor, stand right in front of the rear wheel, and reach over and turn the key. The young boy was standing right beside him, right up against the tractor. The tractor started right up,was in reverse, and was at about 3/4 throttle. It rolled up onto the rear of another tractor behind it, and nearly turned over. It did not stall, but it sat there and spun its wheels on the rear of the other tractor, and bounced around quite a bit. The guy that started the tractor just stood there in amazement, and had no idea how to shut the tractor down. I ran over and shut it off.I guess a lot of us are guilty of doing this very same thing, but this incident shows us why we shouldn't. Had this tractor been in a foreward gear, instead of reverse, the man and his son would almost certainly have been injured.
