Well, if you can feel chunks, not the wires in the hose, it could be a sealer called Liquid Glass, it is used to seal head and block leaks. I started to tear down an engine that was getting hot and found the exact same thing in the lower hose, chunks. Ended up tearing into the engine and milling the head, and replacing the head gasket, since you could see where the sealer had sealed the head gasket. If it has chunks, it has problems, just make sure you aren't feeling the spiral wound wire in the hose.
