It's been close to twenty years since I've seen a Major close up. Can't remember too much about them. Best thing for you to do is go to a dealership, New Holland or other, and purchase an I&T manual, they will contain most of the info you are looking for. A general farm store can probably get one for you too. From what I read in your post, I would suspect the transmission front seal is leaking. I knew of several many years ago, and they were a rugged tractor.

Earthmaster Project Progress Just a little update on my Earthmaster......it's back from the dead! I pulled the head, and soaked the stuck valves with mystery oil overnight, re-installed the head, and bingo, the compression returned.
