Hi. I've got two close models-MF255 w Perkins 203 and an IHGas 504. They are both great tractors and used frequently. I've thought about getting rid of them from time to time but they won't quit and take very little maintenance. The IH is older in my case and I just refurbused some electrical stuff and it smokes but just keeps truckin' all summer. I don't think the 544 is much different. The 255 has industrial backhoe/loader setup which makes it very heavy and thus a little underpowered but the gearing is there. No problems with the motor. Neither one has had anything but oil changes and electrical maintenance for five years now. Hope this helps.
