What do you mean by '1/2 hour playing with'? Could be any number of things - low compression, low cranking speed, poor injector nozzle spray pattern, wrong timing, too cold and preheat system not working, just too cold generally, an air leak into the fuel line, poor lift pump, poor/worn/faulty injection pump, engine 'stop' not releasing sufficently. Plus a few more....... You need to investigate a few things to improve our chances of diagnosing the real problem/repair. It sounds to me that a good general service, as per the instruction manual, would be a good place to start and then come back with better information if the problem persists. Let us know what you find. One thing which would get rid of your starting problem is to preheat the engine with a block heater, but this would simply 'cure the symptoms and not the disease' and would hide the real problem until it becomes more expensive to fix, along with the chance of damaging/wearing the engine unnecessarily.
