"Which is the better deal? a 1000 buck mower that lasts 3 years or a 3000 buck machine that lasts 12?" Spent $600 on a 2 year old MTD with a 46" deck and hydrostat 4 years ago, the only maintenance I've done is change the oil and plugs (and battery) every year. The only problem I've had is that two deck pulleys have needed replaced - and I keep about 4 acres mowed. I know I treat cheap items with not near the care expensive items get. The Merc leaves a drop of oil on the floor and its in the shop (under warranty) to find out what's leaking.
