"Which is the better deal? a 1000 buck mower that lasts 3 years or a 3000 buck machine that lasts 12?" Spent $600 on a 2 year old MTD with a 46" deck and hydrostat 4 years ago, the only maintenance I've done is change the oil and plugs (and battery) every year. The only problem I've had is that two deck pulleys have needed replaced - and I keep about 4 acres mowed. I know I treat cheap items with not near the care expensive items get. My 22 year old F250 gets the &**$ driven out of it and sits outside in all kinds of weather, my wife's new Mercury Grand Marquis doesn't leave the garage if its raining. I only work on the F250 if it won't start, or if I don't think its going to make it back from its next trip. The Merc leaves a drop of oil on the floor and its in the shop (under warranty) to find out what's leaking.
