About right but not quite. The primary job of the pump is to circulate coolant around the engine at all times while the engine is running. Coolant is only allowed to be pumped from the engine to the radiator when the engine is at, or rather above, the thermostat rating. Cooler coolant from the radiator bottom will normally be mixed with hot circulating coolant before being circulated around the engine. A little different than the old thermosyphon systems where the cooled coolant returned to the bottom of the block. Regards,RAB
