Take your new 2/00 welding cables to an electrical contractor. They have a hydraulic compression tool to swag HD ends onto the cables.
Run the ground wire direct from the battery to the starter motor case.
Many 6V systems don't get fully charged. Set the voltage regulator up to 7.2V measured at the battery terminals while running at fast idle.
