Yeah, it's the engine I was referring to. Detroit Diesel designed and built the original 6.2. General Motors hired them to do it after doing a botch-job on those 350 Oldsmobile engines converted to diesel. I think G.M. later did the manufacturing themselves using the Detroit design. There used to be some ties between General Motors, Detroit Diesel, and Allison - but I think it's all been disolved. In fact, I think Damiler-Chrysler is part owner of Detroit Diesel now. When the U.S. military started using first the 6.2s, and then later the 6.5s, there was a deal struck so they'd have a guaranteed parts supply for X amount of years. Guess that's why somebody had to take over and keep on making the engines. Interesting though, that when G.M starting putting microprocessor-controlled injection systems on the engines, and getting a lot of new headaches, the military was, and is - still buying them with the older, and more reliable mechanical systems.
