If the wood splitter has its own valve, the second quick coupler would be needed only to return the oil to the hydraulic system, in which case it could tee into the return line or go directly into the reservoir. If the splitter use is a significant percentage of the use of the hydraulic system, I would recommend a filter in the line, even if it is only for the quick coupler used solely as a return line.
