I agree,Brainy. I have thought about ways to control variable valve timing for years and have not come up with a dependable way to do it.The model T ford had manually controlled ign timing and that in itself made a big difference in the way it ran and in it's economy. I believe BMW came up with variable valves all electronically operated. Just a good cam can make a world of difference.Water injection is another "70's" trick that actually works very good but was put into play with the wrong injection method. But with todays modern fuel injection systems an extra water injector in each cylinder would be no big deal, oxygen and hydrogen two things that can make a car run or run better. The big 3 or more,just don't want to make cars more effecient. sorry I am getting on a rant again.
