I've got a 97 150 with the 4.6 and 4 speed auto trans, with towing package. I'm really satisified with it. Nice ride on the freeway or on the backroads. Gas milage varies with the conditions. I have gotten just a tad over 22 mpg once. This was running freeway at around 70 mph. I hauled 1500 lbs of wheelweights about 500 miles last year and got 18 mpg. Generally, I figure an average of 17 to 19 mpg in average driving. If I were to pull a larger trailer, then I believe the 4.6 would be short of power. Should be okay with a car hauler or similar. The dealer I bought it from says they don't have any serious problems with either one of the triton engines. Your towing rating will be larger with an auto trans than a stick. Your fuel milage will be better with an auto, also. I know, I've run both. BTW, This is a 4X4.
