Does not matter if you use stainless or just a steel rod. I use stainless cause that is what I have and it is easier to clean off the rust. I use an old charger that was used for electric wheel chair, 24 volts. Also have an older charger 8 to 10 amps, 12 volt that I use, have it loaned out to a friend. As far as the amps goes, it will pull what it needs You will notice as the part or tank gets cleaner, amperage draw will gradually go up. I have my tank cleaned and ready to paint. I placed my tank in a plastic container to clean the outside using the same process. removed all the paint and RUST (TURNS RUST TO BLACK OXIDE.which won't react to the oxygen anymore.)Need to do this outside, and away from any sparks cause the process produces hydrogen gas. Good Luck >>>>>>>> Keith check out this website go to the restoration tips http://www.fboerger.com/
