There were two almost identical setups. Both use the adapters you mention, one attaches the top link to the rockshaft, while the other uses a fixed top link mounting point bolted to the tractor between the PTO and rockshaft. I have the first type on my '55 300U and it seems to work good for a bush hog, haven't tried anything else on it yet.
