Here is a drawing of how truss rafters should be built. Alot depends on your roof load- snow, shingles, steel or whatever. You may want to check with your local lumber yard or Menards or Home Depo as you can buy truss rafters cheaper than you can site build them.For a building 24 ft in width the top cords will have to be 13 ft with no overhang. That is for a 4/12 pitch. If you go with more pich than that you should use 2x6's and then you are talking more $.
