You realize your original fertilizer is 20% "K" by weight, and your substitute is 46%, right? So adjust your rate accordingly. Your 36 lb rate x 20% "K" is 7.2 lbs actual "K" per 600' row. One pound of your new fertilizer is .46 lb "K", so dividing the required 7.2 lbs actual "K" by .46, you find that you need 16.65 lbs of the new fertilizer per 600 feet of row to equal your old rate. Old fertilizer = 36 lbs x 20% "N" = 7.2 lbs actual "N" per 600 feet of row. New fertilizer = 16.65 lbs x 14% "N" = 2.33 lbs actual "N" per 600 feet of row. Boy, I hope I did that right. And please feel free to shift some of the rain that has fallen on us in northern ND in the last month your way!
