Changing Fuel Filter 1959 Fordsom Dexta

I am not very familiar with working with diesel engines. Fortunately my Dexta starts and runs great. As a new owner I want to change the fuel filter but am concerned about introducing air into the the fuel system. Having not done this filter change before I am uncertain about a process which would not introduce air into the system or the process to bleed air out of the system if that becomes a problem. If I fill the cartridge container with fuel after installing the filter before reinstalling will this work? I notice what apears to be a bleeder bolt on top of the filter case - after doing the above I could top off the filter container with fuel via this port if this will work. Thanks for any help. JoeD.
