Easy now Loren,it will all work out. If the ARM and Fld wires on the regulator were reversed it may have fried the fld contacts and resistors in the regulator. Try grounding the F generator terminal to the generator case. This will bypass the fld control part of the regulator and allow you to test the rest of the generator/regulator system. Be warned that the generator will now operate without regulator control,so don't run the engine more than half speed and not for too long. If the generator now charges with the F generator stud jumpered to ground,then yes,you need to replace the damaged regulator.
