All of the responses below explain the attraction of old tractors very nicely. However... I drove these tractors (Super W-6, John Deere A & B, Farmall M, Farmall A, etc) when they were "state of the art" helping my Dad farm 120 acres. They were fine for that, but still dusty, hot and loud. I piddle around with my F14 for an hour or two at a time once or twice a week. There is NO WAY I'd want to spend 12-14 hours a day on it, trying to really farm. And on todays 2500 acre farms, it would be impossible anyway. How many old farmers do you know that are hard of hearing, have skin cancer from the constant sunburns, and a bad back from getting pounded around on those old classics? The newer tractors don't have as much "soul" but they are a lot more efficient in terms of gallons per acre, and a darn sight easier on the old bod!
