For the Australia question, you might beable to contact their agriculture department. Today's catagories of tractors can be found at Deere.com because their tractors are grouped into catagories (utility, compact, rowcrop, ect.) and they also provile the horse powers. As for the evolution of the "trator", one can go into more than enoug detail as you would want. The idea of using steam to do a task goes back to Egypt 100BC. Getting an engine to come together to operate a thresher was around 1849. Putting it onto a frame and gear it to the drive wheels was in 1855. The intercombustible engine was born around 1890 with gearing to a drivetrain in 1892. Early gas engine tractors were large bacause they were competing against the steamers in draw bar and belt pulley work. The smaller gas engines began to evolve around the late 1910 and early 1920 with the need for a machine to work a cultivator and to be bought and used by smaller farms. Tractors continued to evolve using more better engines, frames, and power sources. Inventions such as hydrolic ports, 3 point hitch, and other assessories also added to the improvements of the tractor. Does that help with your timeline?
