You might try to throw them in the washer alone with some cold water and add about a cup of vinegar to the washer after it fills and let it go through the full wash cycle. then throw em in the dryer on low heat till dry. this should soften em up!. something to do with the vinegar that softens the fibers? not sure but works for me.
