I have the same problem on my wd45. The shift lever locks down with a locking ring. However, its likely that the previous owner took the ring off because the lever kept popping out of the shifter forks and therefore had to keep removing the ring to reposition. I've been told that either the shift lever tip is worn and needs to be replaced or possibly "welded up" to the original profile; or that the shifter forks are worn and won't hold the tip. I have not yet tried a fix but instead do all my shifting very carefully. Once I'm in gear it never actually jumps out. This topic has come up before on AC's, you may want to check the achives for other ideas.
