To each his own, but you're really only seeing one side of the coin. A lot of "pro" pulling tractors are fencerow derelicts that would still be sitting there doing nothing at all had someone not dragged them out, got them going and modified them for pulling. And like was already said, it's their money and time they're spending, not yours. I guess I'm fortunate to enjoy all aspects of the hobby - operating old tractors in the field, pulling tractors, going to shows and picking through scrap yards looking for a "treasure". Also, pulling brings a lot of the younger people into the sport. Teenage kids that don't have much interest in seeing a fully restored stock tractor sitting there in one spot at a show might have a blast getting on a tractor to pull. It's in our nature to be competitive. All pulling started with stock farm-use tractors, and naturally progressed to modifications and increased performance. Kind of like the guys that swapped flathead V-8s into their '32 Fords. Their desire for increased performance brought us some pretty incredible factory cars, did it not?
