What could he possible gain. Alot. You could take a junk M and a junk 400 or 450 and sell it as one of the most collectable IH tractors. Yes it could be easily told apart from a real SMTA by someone who knows what to look for, but it could easlily be sold as a SMTA to someone who does not. Shoot I see the question every once in a while about some HTA"s that have been seen around the country. There are a lot of people who don"t know that there ain"t no such animal. I consider buying a serial # tag like buying someones social security card (well not quite but you know what I mean)

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet).
