well i didnt mean to be saying anyone should do as i did, im just saying that it can be done safely, the way in the picture is not safe, but a very simular setup could be very safe, maybe not as safe as a lift in an autoshop, but many folks dont have access to such equipment. timbers hold up your house, no reason that if properly places and secured that they cant temporarily hold up a vehicle. wile i havent done anything quiet like that with something like a fullsize truck, i have leaned up a couple toyota pickups, higher than in the picture, and had them chained to a tree, and then 4x4 posts also braced against the truck incase something happened with the chain say, this was the easiest way to salvage parts from them before i was scrapped them. i didnt mean that what the guy was doing was safe, just that the methods he was using could be done safely, of course all this is assuming he isnt welding on the gas tank.it looks to me like he is welding on the frame but who knows.i see guys at the scrapyard all the time with vehicles lifted up on a forklift and cutting parts out from under them, i consider this more dangerous than wood blocks, hydraulics shouldnt be relied upon, they always tell you to block up equipment before working under it not to rely on hydraulics
