My H had the typical gear whine when I got it here. It seemed a little louder than it should to me, so I swapped out the oil to the heavier stuff.

Didn't make a lick of difference on mine; maybe the gears had went too long running against each other between oil changes, I dunno.

A little whine is a normal thing even on the newer planetary types.

The other day, I was at the local TSC store and a fellea was in there with his "Like New" 986. I noticed it whining as he pulled away.

All you can do is try it, I guess.
