You wouldn't have had this problem if you hadn't tried to "improve" the tractor with an alternator conversion and attempting before understanding wiring/electricity. The old generator was a high output 20amp with more than adequate capacity. Now the tractor's value has dropped, you are looking at a mystery tangle of wires, likely had at least one arcing & sparking session, the battery isn't charging. And after many of these "improvements the fan belt is running out of alignment. Just mark the old wires, get the generator repaired and do the easy, fast, less stressful and safe thing by putting it all back to the way it was. At least your troubles will help steer other's away from this common mess.
