Char-Lynn and Behlen both made P/S attachments for Farmalls, but P/S was not avail. on the 400's as an "OPTION". It could be dealer installed or even owner installed later, Behlen P/S was installed on the 350/450's as an Option at the factory however. Check that tag again and I think You'll find it says CHICAGO, IL, not Canton. IH's CANTON, IL. plant only made tillage equip. No tractors. Your 400 was actually made about 100+/- miles north of Canton at the FARMALL PLANT in Rock Island, IL. Right on the banks of the muddy Sylvan Slough which ran between IL and Arsenal Island and merged into the Mississippi River. # 503 will probably get Your name in Redpower Magazine as owning the earliest Farmall 400. They keep a list of earliest & latest tractors & Owners.
