Take the crank to a local machine shop with a decent reputation and ask if it can be repaired and if so, how much it will cost. That answer will determine if you really want to repair the tractor or not. The problem with salvage yards is that they are not likely to sell you just a crank, that makes the rest of the engine worthless to them. They might sell you an engine but you have to assume it needs rebuilding.

You might be able to find a donor tractor, one with the same engine in good shape but maybe it has a dead tranny or whatever. Often that's the least expensive way to go but it might take a while to hunt one down.
