Hi Ron, I would be careful bidding on a backhoe at auction. Without setting on the machine and digging a hole for a hour, you'll never know what kind of hydraulic headaches you are buying. That will cost awhole lot more than a set of brake pads. I personally would be shocked to buy a 60's machine and have no more repairs than a set of brake pads. Remember a backhoe is nothing more than a money pit being this old. Mine (59 IH 340U ) cost me about $200year maintance for about 25hrs worth of use a year and thats after spending $2000 up front repairing stuff. Sorry I can't help with the brakes. T_Bone
