You should se a spark when cranking with the power on, if the HT leaad from the coil is held about 3-5mm from the block. It will not spark if it is touching the block (no air gap to jump). If there is no spark, it doesn"t mean the coil is bad. The most likely fault is with the contact points if no spark, or moisture in the distributor cap if there is. May be an issue with power to the coil, rotor in dist cap, condenser and others, as well as coil could be bad. Needs testing out before spending. Contact point set is cheaper than coil, especially if you then have to buy the poiints as well!!! Good luck and re-post with what you find. Regards, RAB
