Especially with the current tax incentives, it's a beeter tax break for new vs. used. I've bought a number of used tractors over the years, just because they were more within my price range. I'm shopping for a new tractor now in fact. There are millions of used ones that will do the job, but with the tax break, I can buy new, save the difference on federal taxs, and own a newer tractor. Trucks are much the same. When we buy a car for the wife, I will most likely look at a lease return, or whatever gives us the best bang for the buck. Most manufacturers are offering sales incentives on trucks, tractors, or what have you at this time. When I can get new for the same price in the long run, it doesn't take too long to figure out which way is the right way. All this wouldn't matter if I wasn't in the "self-employed farmer" status. The typical non-farmer doesn't get the same tax breaks, unless you own your own business. John
