The first thing to look at is the rule sets for the vsrious local groups that you may pull with. Once the pull bug bitesm hooking a couple of times a year will not be enough. Pay attention to the years, tires sizes (sometimes by weight break), engine modifications, rpm (some times across the board some times a % of stock for the model) and other chanes allowed. Once you do you research it is time to seriously start looking for a tractor and the parts you will need. Another question you will need to answer; do you want to be able to still use the tractor around the farm? I would recommend a six cylinder model such as a 600, 900, 930/1030 or even a laterodel. If you are not allowed a turbo, I would build a gasoline or propane engine. I would strip iy down as far as you are comfortable with and put it back together light. The older models are puller down in the 5500 pound class in the hot antique classes. I would look for a 504 engine as the base for the build up. The MOST important things to learn: How to read a track and pick a path. How to place the weights for proper balance. How to drive the tractor on the track. Hope this helps, we are just scratching the surface so far.

In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
