Ya can only fill 'em in one of two ways.

First either fill 'er upside down and let that ol’ black oil just dribble back in dat little hole, or the easiest way I’ve found is to hurry up and run 'er back up north of the equator. This puts a negative pressure against the pet-cock and pulls every quart of oil in sight towards that brass bastwick.

Now, I've heard it rumored that the Mason-Dixon line will have the same effect on the oil filling requirements of the M. But this is only on the 1940 model. :>)
