No seriously I am glad ( surprised!) I could help.
The John Deere LA was produced between 1941 and 1946. I am sure if you could pin-point the serial number on it a JD guy on here could tell you the exact date. I seem to remember that the L and LA tractors were one of the few models that actually did not use a a JD engine, but one supplied by Hercules. On the other hand I might be wrong!
