I have had it recommended to use on an old Detroit Diesel engine I have. Have used it and it seems to work. Not as volatile as ether, said have less chance of damage due to explosive "knock" caused by excessive ether. As others have said, better to use none at all, but a wiff of ether or whatever wouldn't seem to create a problem. Excess is definitely bad though. Have also heard of using straight propane. Another tip I heard recently, don't turn on fuel to diesel until it has spun a few revolutions and warmed up the cylinder. Seems the fuel in a cold cylinder keeps it too cool to fire. Makes sense, but I haven't tried it yet. Good luck
