The valve stem on a rear, fluid filled tire of our Massy had been leaking for some time and the rim around the stem hole had rusted. I finally got it fixed and a new tube put in. The dealer just welded in a patch piece around on the inside of the rim and smoothed it off where necessary next to the tube. Worked fine, but looked a little rough on the outside. Somebody who wanted to fix a problem like that the right way would pull the tire and tube out, graft (weld) in some fresh sheet metal (8 ga.? 10 ga?), form it where necessary, grind it smooth, prime and paint and go on from there. Depending on how much you did yourself it might or might not be cheaper than a fresh rim.
