ID numbers

I run two different computers one at my home desk and one at my work Office. One is dial up one is cable access. I don't know anything about the ID numbers that are talked about. DO I have two or as many as I have different servers?
Believe it or not I am a Cobol and Assemmbler programmer by Schooling but don't know much about PCs or how the net works. I dropped the programming too. Wife didn't, she makes good money (thatk GOd).
