As someone who was born, worked and retired in Florida, I wouldn't really recommend this state. I have acclimated to the hot muggy summers by birth, but not the horde of snowbirds that visit us every year. My choice would be either northern Alabama, northern Mississippi or western Tennessee. Cheap land, low cost of living, friendly natives. As for summer's heat -- that is why they invented Air Conditioning. I'll take heat any day over being a$$ deep in snow for five months of the year!
