Andy...sounds more like the common problem of being in two gears at once. Try taking the transmission oil fill cap off and sliding the offending sliding gear assy. into neutral. If they"re tight, try rocking a rear wheel to release pressure on them. Use a long screwdriver to slide it with. If their frozen in place...you will more than likely see rust on the sliding shafts which would require further disassembly. I would have my doubts about being frozen in place. Fred OH
