I am using a battery isolater charging system. It seperates your vehicles battery from the trailers battery. I went and bought a very large battery for my trailer it is about 20 inches wide 14 inches deep and 10 inches tall. I feel confortable in saying that with that battery and 12000 lb winch i could load 5 tractors without thinking about charging the battery. Therefor with a big battery like the one i have you shouldnt have to charge it all the time and i wouldnt go through the trouble of getting a battery isolater, and the exspensive cable. After figuring the amps of the alternator and distance of cable i needed, i figured to keep voltage drop a mininum i went with a cable that is about .250 in diameter, i cant remember what it was called exactly. when it was all said and done i believe my charging system ran me $200. My battery ran me about $150. hope this helps
