The 4020 in my opinion gave JD the reputation it enjoyes today. Consider it the first revision of the new generation of tractors with all the bug fixes installed. I don't know of anyone who is unhappy with one. When re-motored they generally use a 4230 engine. The transmission was the big selling point and put then ahead of IH who revolutionized the industry with their farmall in the late 20's.
