I live in deer country. Hit three in one year. I have used dear whistles for over 15 years. Have only hit one since and he dashed out ofthe brush right in front of truck.I can see the deer perk up their ears and run away from the road when I approach. You can still have problems at speeds less than 40 mph because they don't produce any noise and deer that runn out right in front of you. I also think the varying results are due to the quality variations between different brands. Some are just cheap junk. That said I will continue to run mine because I think they work
