I was told that when deer hear the sound of the whistles they freeze and don't move. I have observed this behavior when approaching from a distance. Their heads will jerk up to see what direction the sound is coming from, then it doesn't move until you are well past. My brother was a game warden for 38 years. A local man in his area usually hit 7-8 deer each year as a result of his being on the road almost constantly due to his job. After installing deer whistles his accident rate dropped to 3-4 deer per year. He is now a firm believer in them. For the $10 or whatever they cost, why not install them. You have certainly had more aggravation from the accident than $10. Maybe they work, maybe they don't, but $10 won't hardly make a dent in the wallet in this day and age, so give them a try.
