Hugh, I"m glad you stepped to the foefront and related your story. It is more indicitive of how closely we two nations are tied, than the stories ginned up by the so called journalists whose main agenda is not to cover stories or report the news, but rather to advance their own career or cause at the expense of honesty. Both Canadians and U.S. citizens are far too quick to accept what we hear on T.V. or radio, or read in the newspapers as gospel truth. The brutal fact is that in many cases what we read or hear is neither gospel or truth. I remember in 1966 and 1967 while living in Maryland during the zenith of race riots there how the news media manipulated an incident, rather than simply report what was going on, in order to get the film footage back to the Baltimore T.V. studio in time to be shown on the 6:00 p.m. news. They (media) in fact egged the situation on themselves, caring not a twit how it affected anyohne else. I have listened and read of the recent comments by the news media, about the deteriorating relations between Canada and the U.S., and I am appalled at their arrogance, and unabashed willingness to stir up hate and discontent. Heck, I would say that the folks here in Lansing Michigan hate the folks in Ann Arbor, or the folks in Ann Arbor hate the folks in Columbus Ohio more than the Americans hate the Canadians or the Canadians hate the folks from the U.S. There is certainly competition among us all, but traveling back and forth between the two countries, I see no hate, envy or distain except that which the so called journalists throw our way. Socially, politically, culturally, and economicaly, our two countries have so much in common, and so much to gain by being good neighbors. It amazes me how a certain group of people are intent to destroy that. What they fail to understand is that we are both flourishing, capitalist democracies, and it is historical fact that solid, capitalist democracies do not fight against eachother. They may engage in debate, and negotiate trade agreements, but they just dont fight eachother. It is only dictatorships, and socialist governments that bring war to capitalist democracies. The Journalists and newxs media would do well to cover some REAL stories for a change. Perhaps they could explain why it is safe for me to travel to most places in Canada, but is unsafe for me to stop at a convenience store in the inner city of Detroit. I see that as a far larger problem than any petty unsubstantiated rift that may exist between the U.S. and our faithful Canadian brothers and sisters.

Grain Threshing in the Early 40's - by Jerry D. Coleman. How many of you can sit there and say that you have plowed with a mule? Well I would say not many, but maybe a few. This story is about the day my Grandfather Brown (true name) decided along with my parents to purchase a new Ford tractor. It wasn't really new except to us. The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
