SB in the oil spec I suspect means synthetic blend. These blends are a mixture of usually 50% synthetic oil and 50% mineral oil. They are a good fit for diesel engines. You get most of the benifit of pure synthetic oil along with the lower cost and ability to suspend more black diesel crud than pure synthetic.With the lower cost you can afford to change blend oil oftener than with pure synthetic. Check the API oil spec for your diesel engines,should be somthing like CC-CD-CF. If the Shell oil meets or exceeds this spec ,you should be good to go.
