Sounds like fuel is not a real issue for your starting problem. Electrical. With the back & forth 6-12-6 v, something isn't right. I'd check for the resistor also, did you leave that in? Or perhaps it is built into the coil if that is new. It cuts the points voltage in half, which you need for 12v, but now your 6v would be putting out 3v...... --->Paul
